Suspected Gilgo Beach Killer Faces Additional Murder Charges

Rex Heuermann, the alleged serial killer connected to the Gilgo Beach murders, is expected to be charged with the additional deaths of two women. Here’s the information we have:

According to sources, Heuermann is facing charges for the murders of Jessica Taylor, whose remains were found in Manorville in 2003, and Sandra Costilla, whose death occurred in 1993. Although Taylor’s case has been connected to the Gilgo Beach killings, Costilla’s murder had not been previously linked to the well-known case.

At first, investigators had their suspicions on another convicted serial killer, John Bittrolff, in Costilla’s death. However, he was never charged, leaving the case unsolved along with several other Long Island murders.

Heuermann, a 60-year-old Manhattan architect, is currently facing charges related to the deaths of four other women, who are commonly referred to as the “Gilgo Four.” The charges are related to the finding of their remains along Ocean Parkway on Long Island’s South Shore.

In July 2023, Heuermann was arrested and initially faced charges for three of the murders. However, in January, he was confronted with an additional charge in connection with the tragic passing of another woman, Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

As authorities continue their investigation, Heuermann’s home has been searched twice since his arrest, emphasising the ongoing efforts to uncover more evidence related to these tragic cases.
