Devastating storms tore through Maryland on Wednesday evening, leaving a path of destruction in their wake. This is what happened:
A possible tornado caused a tree to fall onto a residence on Dogwood Drive in Gaithersburg, resulting in the entrapment of five individuals. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and successfully rescued the people who were trapped.
According to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson, four individuals were transported to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. However, one person required more urgent care and was taken to the trauma centre.
Several additional incidents occurred throughout the area, resulting in trees collapsing onto houses and individuals becoming trapped inside. Emergency crews were dedicated to addressing these situations, promptly responding to calls from different locations such as Peony Drive, Winnie Place, and Holly Drive.
In the midst of the chaos, the National Weather Service has officially confirmed the occurrence of a tornado in Poolesville, Montgomery County. Residents were urged to take shelter and remain alert as tornado warnings were issued across the state.
The storm was deemed a “particularly dangerous situation” (PDS) by the National Weather Service due to its severity. Viewers managed to capture images and videos of the storm’s rotations, providing glimpses of the storm’s intensity.
Additional reports have surfaced from Sykesville, Carroll County, regarding a potential tornado sighting near Bartholow Road and Sarah Drive. At least 10 structures in the vicinity were reported to have suffered damage by the Sykesville Fire Department.
Abingdon in Harford County faced a serious flooding situation, resulting in multiple water rescues as people became trapped in their vehicles because of the increasing water levels.
As Maryland residents evaluate the aftermath of these intense storms, emergency services continue to stay alert, prepared to address any additional incidents and offer aid to those impacted by the severe weather conditions.
