Drivers in the vicinity of San Ramon Valley Blvd. south of Bollinger Canyon Road were urged to stay away as the San Ramon Police Department dealt with a situation involving an individual barricaded on Highway 680.
All lanes, both roads, and freeway lanes, were shut down as authorities, led by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), responded to the incident.
By 6:35 p.m., the CHP successfully detained the individual, allowing for the reopening of San Ramon Valley Blvd. and a gradual resumption of traffic flow on the freeway.
Police Chief Denton Carlson explained that the individual complied and exited their vehicle after communication via an armored rescue vehicle’s loudspeaker. The individual was subsequently taken into custody by Dublin authorities on charges of driving under the influence of drugs, confirmed by CHP Dublin.
Despite initial reports, the CHP stated that no firearm was found or observed at the scene. However, there were reports of two vehicle crashes resulting in minor injuries.
The identity of the barricaded individual has been withheld by officials.
